Cupping Therapy in Red Deer

Silicone cups create gentle suction that lifts and loosens tight tissue, a great addition to massage when pressure alone is not enough.

About this treatment

What Is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping is a technique where cups are placed on the skin to create suction. Instead of pressing down into the muscle like traditional massage, cupping lifts the skin and underlying tissue, creating space and encouraging blood flow to the area.

At Flow Again Massage, our RMTs use flexible silicone cups. They can be left in place for a few minutes (static cupping) or glided across oiled skin (dynamic or massage cupping) to work along tight muscle groups such as the back, shoulders and thighs.

Who it helps

When Cupping Can Help

Red Deer clients often ask for cupping, or their RMT suggests adding it, for:

  • Upper back and shoulder tightness
  • Stubborn knots that do not release with pressure
  • Tight hamstrings, quads and IT band area
  • Muscle soreness after training
  • Low back stiffness
  • Clients who want a different approach to deep tissue work

Your session

What to Expect

Cupping is usually combined with a regular massage. Your RMT will first warm up the muscles with hands-on techniques, then apply cups to the target areas and adjust the suction to your comfort.

You will feel a pulling or tightening sensation that most people find relieving. Cups may stay in place for a few minutes or be moved slowly along the muscle.

Cupping can leave round marks on the skin for a few days. They are not bruises from impact and usually fade within a week. Let your therapist know if you have an event coming up and would prefer to avoid marks.

Benefits

Benefits of Cupping Therapy

Many clients find that cupping helps release tension in a way that feels different from hands-on pressure, and pairs well with deep tissue and sports massage.

  • Helps loosen tight muscles and fascia
  • Encourages circulation to treated areas
  • Can reduce post-workout muscle soreness
  • Adds variety to deep tissue treatment
  • Helps relieve back and shoulder tension
  • Often feels relaxing as tension lets go

Rates and Direct Billing

30 minutes $80 | 45 minutes $95 | 60 minutes $110 | 90 minutes $150. Cupping is added within your regular massage booking, so you pay the standard session rate. A 60 minute session gives time for both massage and cupping. We direct bill Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield Canada and many more.

FAQ

Cupping Therapy Questions

Does cupping hurt?

Most people find it comfortable. You will feel a pulling sensation, and your RMT can lower the suction if it feels too strong.

Will cupping leave marks?

It can leave circular marks that fade in a few days to a week. Your therapist can use lighter or moving cups to reduce marking.

Is cupping covered by insurance?

When performed by a Registered Massage Therapist as part of a massage session, it is billed as massage therapy and covered by most extended health plans.

Who should avoid cupping?

Cupping may not be suitable over broken skin, during some medical treatments, or with certain blood or skin conditions. Your RMT will review your health history first.
