About this treatment

What Is Myofascial Release?

Fascia is a thin web of connective tissue that surrounds and links every muscle in your body. After injury, surgery, long hours in one position or repetitive strain, fascia can become thick and tight, pulling on surrounding areas and limiting how you move.

Myofascial release is a hands-on technique where your RMT applies slow, sustained pressure and gentle stretching to restricted areas. Instead of quick, deep strokes, the therapist waits for the tissue to soften and release, which often brings relief well beyond the spot being treated.

Who it helps

Who Myofascial Release Can Help

Myofascial release is a good option for Red Deer clients who want a gentler way to treat stubborn tightness, including people with:

  • Restricted movement in the neck, shoulders or hips
  • Tightness that has not responded to deep pressure
  • Postural strain from desk work or driving
  • Old injuries that still feel stiff or pulled
  • Plantar fascia or heel discomfort
  • A preference for slower, lighter hands-on work

Your session

What to Expect

Your RMT will assess your posture and how you move, looking for areas where tissue feels tight or restricted. Treatment is usually done without much oil, so the therapist can gently stretch the skin and fascia.

You will feel slow, sustained pressure that may last a minute or two in one area. Some clients notice a warm, spreading or melting feeling as the tissue releases. The work is gentle but effective.

Myofascial release can be a full session or combined with deep tissue or Swedish massage, depending on your needs.

FAQ

Myofascial Release Questions

Is myofascial release painful?

It is generally gentle. You may feel a stretching or pulling sensation, but it should not be painful.

How is it different from deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue uses firmer strokes to work into muscle. Myofascial release uses slower, sustained pressure to release the connective tissue around the muscle.

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients feel a difference after one session. Longer-standing restrictions usually improve over several visits.

Is it covered by my benefits?

Yes, myofascial release performed by a Registered Massage Therapist is covered under most extended health plans, with direct billing available.
